C.V.Thomas Wiegandt

Background:

Multi-instrumentalist Thomas Wiegandt
, originally a visual artist (diploma in Graphic and Design, Bremen, Germany), has been playing and performing music since 1973 (Blues-Rock and Jazz). In the 80’s he started building and inventing musical instruments and composed a lot of music, using his own notation system. In 1986 Thomas moved to West Cork, where he bought a cottage. In 1988 he released several tapes of Meditation Music and Music Improvisations together with flute player Jeremy Baines. In 1990 Thomas went to Guinea, West Africa, to learn how to play the Djembe drum as well as drum making with legendary master drummer, Famoudou Konate. In the 90’s he also studied with Anani Attih (Togo) and Arafan Toure (Guinea) and performed with Moussa Camara (Gambia), Demba Sow (Senegal), Gil Ciss (Senegal), Nana Tsiboe (Ghana) and Francis Zonon (Benin). Thomas also took lessons in Balinese Gamelan music from Anak Agong Raka in Ubud (Bali) and learned about Tibetan Singing Bowls from Hungarian Shaman, Joska Soos.
In 1996 he opened the Drumming Centre West Cork outside Ballydehob, West Cork, a workshop centre for drumming, art and healing as well as a drum and percussion shop.


Workshops:

Thomas has been giving hundreds of music workshops and concerts since 1988 in art centres, schools and festivals and for organisations (Health Boards, YMCA, Foroige, Youth Reach, Boy Scouts,etc.) and therapeutic institutions (Rehab, CoAction, etc.). Thomas has worked with individuals and small and large groups, with people from all walks of life, young and old and special needs. He has the reputation to be an experienced and patient teacher and facilitator.
Since 2001 Thomas has also been running team building and group co-operation workshops for companies, institutions and organisations.

Music Performances:

Thomas has performed with many well known drummers from all over the world. He is the founder of Yallah Percussion, a percussion group who are playing a wide variety of world percussion music on African drums, xylophones and guitar, exciting and magic as well as entertaining. He also performs meditative concerts called Dream Waves in which he creates a peaceful atmosphere to relax our busy minds through the gentle sounds of Tibetan Singing Bowls and other acoustic instruments from around the world. He has released several CDs.


Healing and Therapy Sessions:

Thomas has been working as a healer and therapist since 1990. He gives sessions in Sound Healing (using Tibetan Singing Bowls), Music Therapy, Healing Drum, Sound Meditation, Shamanic Journey and Life Guidance.
